Project description
The project is to rehabilitate, expand, operate and maintain the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) under a 30-year concession. SLEX links the Alabang suburb, located 14 km south of Metro Manila, with the southern provinces of Laguna and Batangas. The project comprises three components:

- the rehabilitation and widening of the 1.2-km Alabang viaduct;
- the rehabilitation and widening of the 27.3-km expressway linking Alabang to Calamba in Laguna province; and
- the construction of a 7.6-km extension from Calamba to Santo Tomas in Batangas province, linking SLEX with the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road or STAR.

The project is expected to be completed by December 2008. At project completion, SLEX will comprise 36.1 km.

SLEX will be rehabilitated and expanded by the South Luzon Tollway Corporation (SLTC or the company), which was established in July 2000. When construction is completed, SLEX will be operated and maintained by Manila Toll Expressway Systems, Inc. under an operating and maintenance agreement with SLTC.
